how much would you charge to move a player piano?

I have to move an old player piano up a flight of steps and into a box truck then drive it 40 miles away then unload it and take it into a house.I will have two guys to help me. how much do you think i should charge?

You should charge at least $150.00 to start plus a dollar per mile past 5 miles to cover two guys only. Charge an additional $50.00 per hour for the third guy.

Good luck!

Please help! Should upright pianos be taken upstairs?

I teach piano and at the moment i have a very very old piano out on my verandah and I want to buy an upright piano and put it upstairs in the spare room to create a music room. my stairway is about 1.5m wide and my mum said i can’t take pianos upstairs is it true? please help i really want my music room

It is fine to move a piano upstairs as long as there is room. A piano should be tuned each time it is moved.

Was it common in the 1920’s for baby grand pianos to have ivory coated wood keys?

And are they worth anything now? Even if the piano isn’t in great condition?

Yes, why the poor elephants were viciously hunted down.

How much do Concert Grand pianos generally go for?

I believe that Steinway is the best manufacturer, but I know there are others (Yamaha, etc)

Im curious what the average price of a new concert grand piano is? I know they are very expensive, but just HOW expensive? 20,000?

Well, we bought our grand in 1995…it’s a Baldwin Artist Series…I think 6′ concert grand. Anyway, it was $35,000. My parents just sold it this past year (without telling me!!!). It was appraised at $65,000, of course, they got nowhere near that when they sold it.

Does anyone have suggestions for digital pianos that are on the inexpensive side?

I’m willing to spend around $500, maybe $600 at most. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; I just want something that feels like a real piano when it comes to how it feels when hitting the keys, and the sound.

I’d also appreciate suggestions on where to buy them, other than eBay. I prefer to buy from an actual store but I guess I don’t mind resorting to an online store if there aren’t any good deals available.

Looks like you are quite sure about what you want – which is great and makes the suggestion a lot easier, to say at least. :) In turn, I’m not so sure what you want your instrument for and, in plain words, how much do you expect from it.

It is mainly about your performing level. Just home playing and occasional amateur gigs – one set of needs. Electronic substitute for serious recitals’ piano and decent public shows – naturally, another. In both cases, however, I would NOT recommend Yamahas: IMHO, they have very hard "bottom" of the keys so your fingers really start aching after some time, like you were practicing on a wooden table… And they sound too crappy for their shifted prices.

Korgs are not for serious player, but on amateur level they may be Ok. Plastic feel and sound – do I have to say more?
Rolands, on the other hand, are darn good. And darn expensive. :( Kawai may be the best fit for you. As well as less known Asian-made labels.

The best thing I can suggest: hit any BIG e-store, like zzsound, and look thru their selection of digital pianos. See the prices and, more importantly, read the reviews – customers are mostly intelligent folks, so you’ll get pretty adequate picture. Then, when your searching circle will be narrowed to, say, 3 to 5 models, simply Google for them – you’ll get bunches of offers, guaranteed! After that it’s up to you to contact the stores for possible deals on used instruments. :)
